Sadeibarani - Dhokra Handicraft Village
"Sadeibarani in Dhenkanal is one of Odisha’s prominent centres of Dhokra Bell Metal Craft, one of the state’s oldest living craft traditions with a legacy spanning over 4,000 years. The village is home to skilled artisan communities who continue to practise the ancient lost-wax (cire perdue) casting technique, in which every artefact is individually handcrafted, giving each creation a distinctive character.
Using beeswax, clay moulds and molten brass alloy, artisans create an impressive range of tribal figurines, elephants, horses, Nandi bulls, ritual bells, lamps and decorative objects that reflect Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. Distinguished by their rustic finish and intricate detailing, Dhokra artefacts have earned appreciation among collectors and art lovers across the world.
A visit to Sadeibarani offers travellers an opportunity to step inside artisan workshops, interact with craftspeople and observe the different stages of the traditional casting process. The experience provides an engaging glimpse into a centuries-old craft tradition while supporting the artisan communities that have preserved and passed down this remarkable heritage through generations."
