Mukteswara Temple
"Among the many temples that dot the sacred landscape of Bhubaneswar, the Mukteswar Temple stands out as one of the finest examples of early Kalingan architecture. Built around the 10th century CE by King Jajati I of the Somavansi dynasty, this modest yet exquisitely crafted shrine is often described as the “jewel box of Kalingan architecture.”
The temple is notable for its beautifully proportioned deula (sanctum tower) and pyramid-roofed jagamohana (assembly hall), adorned with delicate carvings. Intricate sculptures of graceful maidens, ascetics worshipping the Shiva Linga, and ornate lattice windows enrich the temple walls. The highlight is the elegant torana gateway an arched entrance decorated with lion heads, makara motifs and delicate pearl-like carvings making it one of the most distinctive architectural features among temples in Odisha."
