Mahendragiri Hills
Rising to 1,501 metres in the Eastern Ghats, Mahendragiri is where mythology, wilderness, and raw mountain beauty come together. Revered as Mahendra Parvata in the Ramayana, it is believed to be the sacred abode of Lord Parashurama, adding a deep spiritual layer to its dramatic landscape. The summit is dotted with ancient temples dedicated to the Pandavas Kunti, Yudhisthir, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva considered among the oldest shrines in Odisha. Beyond its mythological aura, Mahendragiri is a biodiversity hotspot, rich in forests, medicinal plants, and wildlife, making it ideal for trekking, pilgrimage, and nature escapes. As night falls, the mountain transforms into a stargazer’s paradise, with crystal-clear skies revealing constellations and occasional shooting stars an experience that feels both grounding and surreal.
