Konark Sun Temple
"On Odisha’s eastern coast lies Konark, a quaint town that hosts one of India’s most extraordinary architectural marvels: the Sun Temple, Odisha’s Monument of Light, Stone, and Time. Built in the 13th century by King Narasimha Deva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty and designed by chief architect Sibei Samantaray, this colossal chariot celebrates Surya, the Sun God, frozen in stone for eternity. The temple’s 24 intricately carved wheels double as ancient sundials, seven stone horses, each symbolizing a color of the rainbow and a day of the week, pull the celestial chariot. Thousands of sculptures across the monument depict mythology, music, devotion, and daily life, making it a mesmerizing showcase of traditional Kalinga architecture.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s top 5 most visited monuments, the Sun Temple is more than a historical site, it is a timeless celebration of art, culture, and Odisha’s spiritual heritage, inviting every visitor to witness the Sun God’s eternal journey across the sky.
The iconic Konark Dance Festival, a major crowd-puller, where legends of Indian classical dance bring the grandeur of a bygone era to life, against the temple’s breathtaking backdrop."
