Khiching Temple (Kichakeswari Temple)
"Khiching Temple, also known as Kichakeswari Temple, is a striking spiritual and architectural landmark in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Dedicated to Goddess Kichakeswari, the presiding deity of the Bhanja dynasty, the temple is built of dark chlorite stone, giving it a distinct and commanding presence. Originally constructed between the 7th and 12th centuries, it was meticulously restored in 1942 at an approximate cost of Rs. 85,000, preserving its historical essence and intricate artistry.
The temple complex showcases finely carved sculptures depicting deities, mythological scenes, and ornamental motifs, while the sanctum houses the revered idol of Goddess Kichakeswari. Surrounded by serene grounds and complemented by a nearby Khiching archaeological museum, visitors can explore both its spiritual aura and historical significance. Once the cultural and political heart of the Bhanja rulers, Khiching Temple continues to be a site of devotion, festivals, and rituals, offering an immersive journey into Odisha’s heritage, art, and timeless spiritual legacy."
