Barehipani Waterfall
"Barehipani Waterfall, located deep within the lush wilderness of Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district, is one of Odisha’s most spectacular natural attractions, renowned for its towering height and dramatic two-tiered cascade. Plunging from an impressive height of around 399 meters, it is the highest waterfall in Odisha and second highest waterfall in India. The waters of the Budhabalanga River flow over the Meghasuni Mountain of the Eastern Ghats, creating a mesmerizing sight as water descends through multiple rocky layers into the forest below.
The name “Barehipani” is derived from local dialects, reflecting the natural and cultural connection of the region with its surroundings. Surrounded by dense forests, rolling hills, and rich biodiversity, the waterfall is a true representation of untouched wilderness. The journey to Barehipani is an adventure through the scenic landscapes of Similipal, where winding forest roads, towering trees, and occasional wildlife sightings create an immersive experience even before reaching the viewpoint. As visitors arrive, they are greeted with a panoramic view of the waterfall cascading down the cliffs, often accompanied by mist rising from the base and forming rainbows under sunlight. The sheer scale and power of the waterfall create a sense of awe, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure enthusiasts. The surrounding forest is home to diverse wildlife, including elephants, deer, and numerous bird species, adding to the richness of the experience.
The best time to visit is from November to March when the water flow is strong and the landscape is lush and vibrant. The tranquil environment, combined with the sound of cascading water and the beauty of the forest, creates a deeply refreshing and memorable experience. Barehipani Waterfall is not just a visual spectacle but a symbol of Odisha’s rich natural heritage, offering a glimpse into the raw and majestic beauty of the Similipal ecosystem."
