Barabati Fort
Dating back to 987 CE, Barabati Fort stands as one of Odisha's most significant medieval landmarks. Built by Maharaja Markata Keshari of the Somavanshi dynasty and later expanded by the Eastern Ganga rulers and King Mukunda Deva, the 102-acre fortress occupies a strategic location between the Mahanadi and Kathajodi rivers. Once home to a magnificent nine-storey palace, the fort today preserves impressive ruins, including its iconic Eastern Gateway, ancient stone ramparts and excavated structural remains that reflect its glorious past. The complex also houses the Shahi Qila Mosque, the Mazar of Sayed Ali Bukhari, and the Museum of Justice, offering visitors a fascinating blend of history, architecture and culture. Protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, Barabati Fort remains one of Kataka's most treasured heritage attractions
