Where the sculptures come alive in dance and rhythm

Timeless Grandeur Under the Starlit Skies

Set against the timeless grandeur of the Konark Sun Temple, the Konark Festival is far more than a celebration of dance and music, it is an experience where heritage comes alive under the starlit skies of a winter night. As evening descends upon Konark and the temple glows in soft golden light, the sculpted dancers carved into its ancient walls seem almost ready to step into motion once again.

Here, art is not confined to stone. It breathes through rhythm, movement, music, and tradition.

Held every year from 1st December to 5th December, the festival transforms Konark into one of India’s most evocative cultural stages, drawing renowned artists, scholars, travellers, and connoisseurs from across the world.

About the Festival

Originally envisioned by legendary Odissi maestro Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, the Konark Festival has grown into one of India’s premier classical dance and cultural festivals. Organised by Odisha Tourism in collaboration with cultural institutions, the festival celebrates India’s rich performing arts traditions against the backdrop of one of the country’s greatest architectural masterpieces.

For five magical evenings, internationally acclaimed artists present some of India’s finest classical dance forms including Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, and contemporary classical interpretations.

At the heart of the festival lies Odissi — Odisha’s classical dance tradition deeply inspired by the sculptural elegance of Konark itself. The festival creates a rare dialogue between temple architecture, music, movement, and spirituality, allowing audiences to experience art in one of its most authentic settings.

Together with the International Sand Art Festival at nearby Chandrabhaga Beach, the Konark Festival offers visitors a vibrant cultural journey where heritage, creativity, and coastal beauty converge.
