I heard a lot about the heritage of ex-princely state of Badamba, but never got a chance of visiting this historic place. However, the day of last "Pana Sakranti" was something special as I explored the historic Badamba Gada.
The Badamba state was founded in 1305, when land comprising two villages, Sonkha and Mohuri (now amalgamated into the present town of Sonkhameri, was granted by the then King of Orissa, Kishore Narsingh, to the founder, Hatakeshwar Rawat, in recognition of his valor.
I was able to photograph the abandoned old guest house of Badamba Kings, the medieval Jagannath temple & the Radhakrishna temple. There is also the royal palace of Badamba where the royal family still resides, however, entry is prohibited to that palace.
